Position of lifetime magistrate is created.

The General Court orders that a certain number of magistrates should be chosen for life. John Winthrop and Thomas Dudley are elected members of the so-called “Standing Council” lifetime members on May 25, 1636. The order proves unpopular, however, and is subsequently abolished.
